Orbitz envisions a world where everyone can travel as they are, no matter who they are or where they’re going. For over 20 years, we’ve led the way in advocating for LGBTQIA equality and inclusion in travel. But our journey has only just begun. We are continually identifying and elevating travel partners who share our values and will work with us to create a world in which all people can travel freely, safely, and confidently.

Orbitz Pledge of Inclusivity

Lodging properties displayed on Orbitz.com/Pride and/or featured as LGBTQIAwelcoming on Orbitz.com and mobile apps have voluntarily opted into our Inclusivity Pledge. To learn more about what our Inclusivity Pledge commitment entails, see below.

Inclusivity Pledge

  • At a minimum, lodging partners who sign this pledge agree to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for hateful, disrespectful or discriminatory behavior from staff at any level.
  • Some hotel partners with this labeling have committed to additional anti-discriminatory activities. Examples include:

-Training staff on sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions
-Staff to use gender-neutral language so as to not incorrectly assume a traveler’s gender
-Staff will appropriately assist same-sex couples at check-in and check-out
-Hotels will provide recommendations for nearby gay-friendly neighborhoods, restaurants, and activities
-We will not feature properties in countries that criminalize the LGBTQIA community as LGBTQIA-welcoming hotels.

Enforcement

  • We operate a marketplace where we trust our lodging partners to self-certify that they meet the necessary requirements of our pledge
  • If we determine that any of our lodging partners have violated these termsOrbitz will take action, up to and including removal from Orbitz.com and mobile sites.
  • If you would like to report a hotel partner who you believe has violated the Pledge of Inclusivity, please file a complaint with our customer service team.

Maintaining an Inclusive Marketplace

Beyond our Inclusivity Pledge, we are taking additional steps to maintain a welcoming and equitable environment for our travelers.

 Vendor Code of Conduct

  • We believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect, and we’re committed to maintaining a workforce free of harassment and unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, caste, national origin, religion, age, disability, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, union membership, or political affiliation.

 Orbitz Company Standards

  • We expect members of our community to demonstrate respect and tolerance in all interactions with each other, both online and offline.
  • We reserve the right to enforce actions against anyone who publicly displays, endorses or idly permits discrimination or violence against others – especially those who identify as LGBTQIA – whether it be from employees, leadershipshareholders, or individuals within and/or associated with franchise organizations.
  • Abusers of these standards may face action from Orbitz on our sites, including but not limited to:

– Suppressing or removing travel providers from our sites and mobile apps.
– Removing guest-generated content from our sites, e.g. in reviews and on our social channels, that victimizes or threatens others.
– Blocking 3rd party advertisers from placing ads on Orbitz sites that violate these principles, as expressed directly in their ads or by their actions as an organization. (*Does not extend to retargeting ads that are not controlled by Orbitz)

Our efforts to empower all travelers to be in charge of their own journey is an ongoing commitment which guides our every move. Our mission to drive change in the travel industry means working closely with those who share our vision of a more inclusive future. You are a big part of this change, and we welcome you to travel as you are.

  1. Can you please provide some examples of what would be considered discriminatory practices by a hotel? As far as I know, a hotel will rent a room to anyone, for any reason. Any restriction, such as max occupancy, noise disturbance etc., applies to everyone. Are you aware of any hotels that will not rent a room because you are black, or gay or Muslim etc.? Discriminatory practices such as this have been outlawed for decades. The only thing I can think of that is even close to what you are saying is if a customer wanted to host an event in a ballroom of the hotel, the hotel might not allow every type of event to be hosted. I would think the hotel would have the right to refuse a request at their sole discretion. But, of course, Orbitz does not rent ballrooms. So that really doesn’t apply to you.
    Thanks in advance
